Welcome 2014, Happy New Year !

First time i'm using my i phone to update my blog... Looking back at 2013 on this last day, the year seems to pass unknowingly with ups & downs. I had my fistula surgery in June and the scar is still visible now. I wonder when the scar will diminish? There is always this question on my mind that i like to ask Dr Chua - why did he cut in a vertical line instead of horizontally like my previous surgery? Mum says that becos surgery cannot always cut at the same spot, i guess maybe thats why. Subsequently in the few months thereafter, a lot of  things happened at SS - Joyce's fall in Penang, CPF issue etc. I got the job at JCST and resigned in September. The decision to resign is not a sudden one but has been on my mind since beginning of this year. I actually started looking for jobs since May and actively after my fistula surgery.
Went to Korea with Jinglan & cousins after serving my notice at SS. The trip was very fun and enjoyable. Korea is another country which i really wanted to go when i was on dialysis. End 2013 marks 6 years of my work life at SS (but i left in october) and 4 years of my transplant. I started work at JCST on 1st Nov 2013. The colleagues there are quite nice though work is slow and very different from SS. JCST life is a new challenge for me becos i have to change to a new environment where people are not aware of my medical condition and to take extra care of my diet now that i'm eating out more often. Looking forward to a better year in 2014, good health, bountiful joy & happiness!!

Fistula Removal

I have been thinking of getting my fistula removed earlier this year after my 3 years post-transplant but had been putting it off due to fear and doctor's advice to just leave it there. Finally after listening to ex-transplant patient and reading up on my own, i decided to go ahead and do it when i followed up with the vascular surgeon (Dr Benjamin Chua) last month.

The scheduled surgery date was yesterday, 3 June 2013 (Monday). The nurse called me early in the morning to bring forward my admission time to 12.30pm instead of 1.30pm because there was a surgery cancellation. In the end i was early and reach at 12.30pm but have to wait for 3 hours before finally going to the operating theatre for my surgery as the surgery before me was delayed.

I glanced at the clock before the start of my surgery and the time was 4pm. As per the last time, i was on LA and could hear all the talking of the nurses and the doctor. Fear set in when Dr Benjamin Chua inject the anaesthesia in my hand... it was painful & after that my hand was numb. Dr Benjamin Chua commented that my aorta has grown very big and may be a little complicated. 2 surgical kits were required and the assisting nurse have to make some stupid comments. I remembered my vascular surgery 6 years ago was also complicated as at that time Dr Tan SG commented that my veins/artery/nerves are so small. Haha... how ironic! Throughout the surgery, Dr Chua ask how was doing and update me of the progress of the surgery. Is this his way of alleviating my fear? If a patient has a weak heart, sure will be freaked out by all the going ons and conversation around her. My surgery ended at 5pm.

Goodbye to 2012 !

Traveling a lot this year and 七月间 Staff Solutions Aniversary 的时候, Joyce 还 sponsor us to Bangkok for company trip. Shoping & eating. Yipee! In October, me & mum went with 阿姨 and her friends to Taiwan (a country i have long wanted to go since last time).

For a better 2013, Gambateh!

3 years and continuing...

后来接下来一年又发现血塘因吃immunosuppresant 而偏高, 所以now have to take medication and control my diet for high blood sugar. No wonder they say that even after transplant, is the begining of a new life and start of a new regimen.

I want to thank my mum who has been with me throughout all the hardship. She is my best discipline mistress, motivator and companion.

GE Run 2012

It has been 3 years and i am back for the Great Eastern Run again. When I went for my first GE run, it was in 2009, with peipei and hongguang. I still remembered having Mcdonald Hotcakes breakfast with pei after the run. How time flies... This time i am running alone but i am not lonely as there are other contestants running with me. I managed to finish the 5 km run before 9am. Quite a workout morning.

Long Weekend...

Today is Hari Raya public holiday (Monday), quite bored coz stayed at home the whole day. How time flies, now is already August. After the Hari Raya festival will be approaching 中秋节 and then it will be Deepavali followed by Christmas and a year is gone and the new year will begin. When i was young, i remembered that the days and year going pass very slowly but now when i've grown up and working, the days seems to pass by unknowningly and before one realize, weeks/months/years are gone.

Last week i had a battle with potassium again. Aiyah, forgot to control my fruits/vege/high K+ intake before i go for my blood test. But lucky i managed to lower tthe K+ level to normal level after 3 days. Is it due to my garlic intake or efforts in avoiding all vege/fruits for the 2 days? Sometimes, i really find that taking blood test is like an examination and battle. Whether you pass or fail depends on your effort and determination to pass and obtain good results. Once you drop your guard, the results may turn out bad or sometimes even scary. Must always remind myself to be well prepared and to put in extra effort when the exams are approaching. Haha... of course i would say that good health is an everyday battle and not only when blood test is coming but humans are still humans, we need to give ourselves a break at times.

Bangkok Trip

Yippee ! This is my first trip to Bangkok.

Oh yeah, the 海南岛 tour is really quite worth it, bought from Deals.com at $59 and come with free Macau/Zhuhai tour (looking forward to the trip in April). The hotels provided are 4 star and food not bad, except that we must pay for some additional tours.

Finally, 15 days of new year celebration is over. Mother's birthday come next - I brought her to Feast@East Ocean at Roxy Mecure Hotel, Parkway Parade for the lunch buffet. The food is average but most important have her favorite durian cake & puree (i must say it is marvellous & just going for the durian cake is worth enough), mee swa (for her birthday), laksa for me (Haha...) & other varieties. We were so full when we come out. Oh no, again caught in the buffet trap.

2011 coming to an end

Tomorrow will be Christmas, one more week later and we will be stepping into a brand new 2012 year.

Time flies and passes us in the brink of an eye. I find that as I get older, time goes by faster for me. Or is it my job? I will start the week with Monday and thinking how to close order, follow by Tuesday and Wednesday, then boss will pop the sentence "Business very bad, no order close at all." Well, she didn't really stress us, but the stress is from oneself. Thursday, Friday and one week is gone. Always looking forward to a better next week and the date my candidate start work. OMG, no wonder time passes so quickly. Was exchanging presents with Staff Solutions colleagues yesterday and it was just like yesterday that we were celebrating christmas at Melting Pot last year. This is already my 4th christmas with Staff Solutions.

New Year, New Hope, New Resolutions! Hmm... must start thinking of my new resolutions and looking back at the achievements of the current drawn. Hopefully 2012, year of the Dragon, is a better year for all of us. I wish for good health, peace, luck and happiness.

Hongkong, 23 - 26 Nov

We (me & mum) went to hongkong 2 weeks ago to visit and see how brother and Wee Swan are coping over there. Well they are doing quite alright, just shifted into new house and brother say that working in Hongkong is not much different than in Singapore, in fact less stressful compared to Singapore, can always go back on time and reach home at about 7.30pm.

Hongkong has changed much since the last time i went 10 years ago. The pace is not as quick or crowded as before and the MTR compared to Singapore is less packed. The food in eateries and restaurants seems less salty and more healthy compared to before. I was only there for 3 days and Wee Swan brought me to the Ladies market, Wan Chai and the market place near their house. Wow shopping and shopping most of the time. Time is too short for me. Haha...

Mum should rest assured now that she went over and sees that they are doing well. Looking forward to next year, maybe i'll go during the summer sale :)

National Day

Today is National Day and finally have some time to sit down and update my blog again. It has been a month since i last write something. After i came back from Guilin, i went to Malacca for 2 days with Staff Solutions to celebrate our company anniversary. The trip was quite a rush because we were stuck in the jam when going there and arrive only at 3pm even though we took the 8.30am bus. But it was enjoyable though short. Managed to buy clothes and stuff. Hee Hee :) Well, life remain the same for other things except that there may be some changes in the family soon. Brother will be going over to Honkong to work and Wee Swan will be going with him. Not sure when he will be back because according to him, it will be a pemanent relocation. Feel quite sad as next time it will be left with mother and me in the house...

Guilin

Finally, my first long trip overseas since my kidney failure and after my transplant. Me and mum went to Guilin from 22 - 29 June (although a total of 8 days but in actual was 6 days becos 2 days was spent on travelling).

We spent 2 days in Nanning, 3 days in Guilin and 1 day in Yangshuo. From this trip, I know a lot about the famous Liu San Jie & her folk songs. Also never know that mum like so much about Liu San Jie when she was young.

Overall, the trip was very enjoyable and relaxing. Oh forget to mention that we had interesting and funny tour mates that made the trip er how i say "搞笑" 吧.

Apple Cider Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is an effective natural bacteria-fighting agent that contains many vital minerals and trace elements such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, chlorine, sodium, sulfur, copper, iron, silicon and fluorine that are vital for a healthy body.

Natural Apple Cider Vinegar is made by crushing fresh, organically grown apples and allowing them to mature in wooden barrels. When the vinegar is mature, it contains a dark, cloudy, web-like bacterial foam called mother, which becomes visible when the rich brownish liquid is held to the light. Natural vinegars that contain the mother have enzymes and minerals with benefits; the sparkling clear variety will have practically no health benefits due to over-processing, over-heating, and filtration.

Propagators of this wonder drug claim that the best way to have the vinegar is first thing in the morning. Mix two tablespoons each of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water and drink it.

Benefits

Apple cider vinegar is helpful in ailments such as constipation, headaches, arthritis, weak bones, indigestion, high cholesterol, diarrhea, eczema, sore eyes, chronic fatigue, mild food poisoning, hair loss, high blood pressure, obesity, along with a host of many other ailments.

Cholesterol

Pectin in the vinegar is a fiber which helps reduce bad cholesterol by soaking up fats and LDL cholesterol and eliminate them, preventing them from being absorbed into the body.

Diabetes

Insulin

Insulin is secreted by the beta cells of the pancreas in response to high blood sugar, although a low level of insulin is always secreted by the pancreas. After a meal, the amount of insulin secreted into the blood increases as the blood glucose rises. In response to insulin, cells (muscle, red blood cells, and fat cells) take glucose in from the blood, which ultimately lowers the high blood glucose levels back to the normal range.

Type II diabetes is either due to insulin resistance or insulin deficiency. Fiber in apple cider vinegar functions to help in the absorption of excess glucose in your bloodstream and help avoid sugar spikes that lead to problems with diabetes and also food cravings that lead to weight gain.

Mother's Celebration

We went for mother's day dinner one week earlier as brother and wee swan need to go back Malaysia on the week itself. Brother reserve a table at He Ping and we went for dinner at 6pm becos mum wants to come back for her taiwan show (in the end, she missed it also).

Not good, not good, things has not been doing well for me since April... I lost 4 kg of weight and my blood glucose is elevated when i did my blood test on 15 April. Why why why? Doctor say the elevated blood glucose and loss of weight could be due to diabetes caused by the immunosuppresant medication that i am taking. OMG! Now i must work harder to control my sugar intake. No wonder, they say that after transplant is another race and new health battle. The medications has a lot of side effectes, now that i know of is elevated cholesterol, elevated blood glucose and bone loss... dunno what else holds ahead in future.

Also, my eyes have been blur and cannot seen to focus on close proximity and small words. I wonder what happened? Its a sudden onset when one day i found that i have difficulty sms as i find it hard to read the small words. Especially a night, sometimes i cannot even see my sms. But the strange thing is i can see far things very well. Dunno what happened?? Just hope that my eyes will recover soon as even reading is a problem as i cannot focus long or the words will become blur. I will be going to the eye centre to check up and consultation on 12 May. Hopefully nothing is wrong and i can get a good eye specialist to check for me.

Time flies... it has been about 2 months since I last updated my blog. CNY is over and it is now back to normal daily life.

The start of the Rabbit year has not been very good for mum. She is hospitalised last month because of her leg and back pain. Now her movements are still limited becasuse of the pain. She has since tendered her resignation and recuperating at home. She also went for accupuncture and taking TCM medicine. Hopefully she can recover soon and be mobile like last time.

Work is also not so smooth for me after the CNY. Have to handle replacements and nonsense from both E & C. But its not only me, my colleagues got it also. :(

Krabi

We plan this trip quite last minute as Esther only let us know of her coming back date last month. Our initial plan is to go Langkawi but the air tickets for this year are all sold out. Hence we settle for Krabi.

Our B&B htel in Krabi - Harvest House

I wonder if we brought the rain from Singapore to Krabi. The minute we touch down, it turned cloudy and throughout our 3 days stay there, it was raining almost all the time. So much for wishing to suntan and using my sunglasses.

One year ago...

"Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers,

But be fearless in facing them.

Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain,

But for the heart to conquer it

Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved,

But hope for the patience to win my freedom."

These are the words that accompanied me one year ago when i was waiting anxiously in the Tianjin hospital ward for my turn. Time seems to crawl slowly everyday. Me and mum would pass time watching CCTV shows. Haha, i still remembered our favorite show " 媳妇的眼泪". Lucky there are TV show entertainment, if not it will be hard to pass the days.
